Just when I thought things could not get any worse, some idiot decides to hang a noose in Geisel library. Before it was just an over reaction to a silly party, but now the noose lends actual credibility to the accusations of the Black Student Union. The media is going to have a field day with this tomorrow.

Tonight, around 12AM, the Student Regent Office was informed that a noose was found at the 7th floor of Geisel Library. The picture we show below is not to promote or display such disturbing images to the public, but to properly document such actions to the public, and condemn them for the racism they perpetuate.
This racism and fear is not acceptable. Not acceptable at all. We will fight this.
Note: We’ve cropped the picture, as to not reveal the individual’s identity who was in the picture. Some have expressed fear that this individual would targeted, we apologize, we meant no harm in posting the picture and recognize the issues that it brings. We keep the picture on the website for documentation and evidence that the noose was placed, and so there can be no question about the actual existence of the incident.
1:18AM UPDATE
monifigi NOOSE WAS FOUND IN THE LIBRARY. SOMEONE SENT A MESSAGE TO THE GUARDIAN SAYING MORE ARE COMING. MEET AT LIBRARY WALK TOMORROW AT 8am.
adanacnut UCSD: someone sent message to the Guardian saying more nooses will come, they’re fucking with us. 
2:20pm UPDATE
UCSD Police Department: There have been no eyewitness accounts. There are no cameras in that area of the library, so there is no documentation of who might have put it there. The area has been dusted for fingerprints, and the noose has been removed so they can run a DNA analysis. Unfortunately, a DNA analysis can only match up with people who are currently in the criminal database as well. They are currently running a criminal investigation, the police chief as been called.

I wonder if the freedom of speech card is going to be played...
There is a law in california that makes it illegal to hang a noose with intent to terrorize and it carries a max of 1 year in prison. Looks like the girl who hung it up is going to be charged with a misdemeanor. Lucky for her.
